Ancestry

While many research types stated that Paleo-Indians were the first to come to Oregon initially, the oldest evidence of people in Oregon was found at Fort Rock Cave and the Paisley Caves in Lake County.

Famous archaeologist Luther Cressman mentioned statistics from Fort Rock to 13,200 years ago, and there is proof that people who lived there in that region were at least 15,000 years ago. Till 8000 BC there were changes throughout the state, a high percentage of the populÿÿation lived along the lower Columbia River, situated in the western valleys, and around coastal estuaries.

In the prehistoric period, the Willamette Valley region was swamped after the collapse of glacial dams from Lake Missoula, placed in Montana. These massive floods happened at the time of the last span of the glacial era and flooded the valley with 300 to 400 feet (91 to 122 m) of water.

In the 16th century, Oregon was a place where many Native American groups, like the Chinook, Coquille (Ko-Kwell), Bannock, Chasta, Kalapuya, Klamath, Klickitat, Molalla, Nez Perce, Takelma, Killamuk, Neah-Kah-Nie, Umatilla, and Umpqua lived.

According to the American Community Survey held in 2016, 12.4% of Oregon's number of people who lived there were of Hispanic or Latino roots and people from all races.

Some of them were Mexican (10.4%), Puerto Rican (0.3%), Cuban (0.1%), and other Hispanic or Latino origin (1.5%). The five largest lineage groups for White Oregonians included: German (19.1%), Irish (11.7%), English (11.3%), American (5.3%), and Norwegian (3.8%).
