Ancestry

The State of Oklahoma started keeping records in 1908, though it was not needed by law before 1917. The untimely birth records are filed from the year 1865. Most birth statistics were not kept recorded until 1950 when the Social Security Act was carried out, and WWII was about to start.

All of this started when people began to find proof of the legal name, citizenship, age and the age of their ancestors to avail themselves certain advantages from the state.

In the year 2005, Oklahoma's projected lineage was 14.5% German, 13.1% American, 11.8% Irish, 9.6% English, 8.1% African American, and 11.4% Native American that included 7.9% Cherokee although the percentage of people who said that they were American Indian was 8.1%.

Most people from Oklahoma who claim to have American roots are English and have Scots-Irish ancestry with large amounts of Scottish and Welsh attributes.

Oklahoma is located in the South by the United States Census Bureau, but other sources say that its location is somewhere close to the Southwest, Midwest, Upland South, and Great Plains. The inhabitants of Oklahoma have a high rate of forefathers who were English, German, Scotch-Irish, and Native American, with 25 different indigenous languages.

Race

According to the Census of 2010, 68.7% of the inhabitants were non-Hispanic white, that decreased from 88% in the year 1970, 8.2% non-Hispanic American Indian and Natives from Alaska, 7.3% non-Hispanic black or African American, 1.7% non-Hispanic Asian, 0.1% non-Hispanic Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, 0.1% from some other race (non-Hispanic) and 5.1% of two or multiple races, who were not Hispanic.

It was estimated that probably 8.9% of Oklahoma's population was of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish birth, (they may be of any race).

Following is the classification of Oklahoman’s population over the years according to the Censuses.

According to the Census of 1970, there were 89.1% White people. In 1990 the statistics reduced to 82.1%. In 2000, it was 76.2%, and in 2010 it was 72%.

People from the racial and native background were 3.8% in the 1970's Census. 8.0% in the 1990’s Census. 7.9% according to the Census of 2000 and 8.7 in 2010.

The Black race population consisted of 6.7% in 1970, 7.4% in 1990, 7.6% in 2000, and 7.4% again in 2010.

According to the statistics of 1970, the population of Asian race consisted of 0.1%, 1.1% in 1990, 1.4% in 2000, and 1.7% in 2010.

Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander races consisted of 0.1% in 1970, 1.1% in 1990, 0.1% in 2000, and 0.1% again in 2010.

People from Other Race consisted of 0.2% in 1970, 1.3% in 1990, 2.4% in 2000 and 4.1% in 2010.

Two or More Races consisted of 0.2% in 1970, 1.3% in 1990, 4.5% in the year 2000, 6.0% in 2010.
